Seeing all parts of ourselves takes effort, practice, and time. In fact, it’s a practice that takes a lifetime. Yoga is one way to get in touch with our shadow parts, the parts we deem unsavory and unattractive.
The physical practice of yoga includes many intentional pauses. These pauses are opportunities to notice what’s coming up for us physically and emotionally. Shadow parts can reveal themselves during those pauses.
The quiet stillness of meditation can bring out shadow parts sometimes instantaneously as we internally berate ourselves for not being able to sit still.
Breath work opens up energetic channels in sometimes surprisingly powerful ways and out peeks a shadow part.
We all have shadow parts. They play an essential role in our psyches. The work lies in acknowledging, accepting, and ultimately loving those shadow parts. And when those parts are genuinely loved, they can finally chill and stop running the show.
